Personnel Bios

We bring to each project extensive experience, a comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements and an acute awareness of the costs involved. We begin an assignment by thoroughly reviewing with the client objectives regarding special lighting design considerations, specific electrical equipment features, auxiliary system requirements and other preferences. More importantly each project is assigned to a project manager based on their area of expertise. Our staff has almost 150 years of experience or over 300,000 man-hours devoted exclusively to electrical engineering and design:

Richard W Petrie, P.E. President

Mr. Petrie is President of Hornfeck Engineering, Inc. and serves as the Principal in Charge and as Project Engineer for various projects. He has been practicing electrical engineering for 45 years, during which time he has been responsible for the complete design of fire detection and alarm systems, computer room facilities, process controls, office renovations, UPS systems, cogeneration facilities, and electrical power and control systems for various commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. Mr. Petrie also has 12 years’ experience in plant engineering and maintenance.

Colin D. Finkbeiner Process Control Designer

Mr. Finkbeiner is an Electrical Designer with Hornfeck Engineering, Inc. and works primarily in the instrumentation and controls area of electrical engineering. He is responsible for detailed design and specification of complete Process Control (SCADA) Systems.

Diane M. Starr CADD/Designer

Ms. Starr is a CADD/Designer at Hornfeck Engineering, Inc. and provides design support for various projects. She has been practicing drafting/design for 28 years at which time she has been responsible for supporting various project managers through AutoCAD drafting, lighting calculation, lighting design, COMcheck, plotting, client communication and graphic manipulation. Recently she has been responsible for overall power and lighting design for several Waynesburg University projects.

Ben F. Walker, P.E. Consulting Engineer

Mr. Walker is a consulting engineer with Hornfeck Engineering, Inc. and he serves as the Project Manager and Design Engineer for various projects. He has been practicing electrical engineering for 65 years. He has been responsible for the complete design of electrical systems and auxiliary systems such as power, lighting, process motor control, instrumentation systems, distributed control, SCADA systems, emergency and fire alarm systems for municipal, commercial, industrial, institutional, and recreational facilities.

James F. Walker Senior Electrical Designer

Mr. Walker is a Senior Electrical Designer with Hornfeck Engineering, Inc. and serves as an Electrical Designer for various projects. He has been practicing electrical design for 40 years. His experience includes project design for educational, health care, commercial, institutional and recreational facilities.
